This mix may give you the unnerving feeling that you know all of the music without having heard any of the songs. Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, The Mamas & the Papas, Wu Tang Clan, Salt ‘N’ Pepa, RJD2–you won’t find them here. However, you will hear the songs that made them famous.

These songs are either covers, shadow-covers, cousins, or lesser known originals of very famous recordings. A deep, bluesy vibe holds it all together. You can almost hear the advent of a mid-to-late 60s hard rock sound in the lateral bass lines and vocals that alternate from growling to yowling. The arrangements here are usually intricate, the guitars propulsive. Each track has a great narrative drive. “Hey Joe” even busts out a prequel.

Lee Moses returns!
